5 Essential Items For A Snowboarding Holiday
5 Essential Items For A Snowboarding Holiday
Snowboarding is an exhilarating awesome experience recently popularised worldwide by the winter Olympic Games in Turin but whether you are new to snowboarding or an old hat at it there are five essential items you need to seriously consider taking on your snowboarding holiday. Snowboarding is not at all like downhill skiing it is in fact to downhill skiing what ice skates are to the flimsy little keylocked skates we used to use as children if we grew up in the eighties anyway.
First of all you need all of the proper equipment. This includes boards boots and bindings for them. Naturally of course you need a snowboard. For newcomers or those only recently starting out it is better to use a free riding board which is shorter and provides better control for boarders not quite used to the different balance yet. More experienced snowboarders can pretty much pick and choose which kind of board they fancy best. The kind of boots that are the most practical for snowboarding are not precisely like ski boots. They are soft and extremely insulated to better fit the popular soft bindings. These are stepin bindings which you can click into place while in a standing position.
Next up you need the proper clothing. It is essential to wear clothing that is both waterproof and breathable. Materials which absorb perspiration such as denim and cotton should be avoided at all costs. Because they absorb sweat you will end up getting colder than you would with waterproof materials which presents the risk of dehydration. Moisturewick undershirts long sleeved insulating layers and a waterproof wind resistant jacket are best for the upper half. Two pairs of long lightweight socks that will not absorb sweat are recommended as well as insulated and waterproof gloves. For pants technical pants are best because they are waterproof and heavily padded which will definitely come in handy. Nonabsorbent long underwear beneath these is also a good idea.
You need the right protective gear as well. Wrist guards will keep your wrists a vulnerable area in snowboarding from being easily injured. A helmet is recommended for obvious reasons especially in situations where you know you will be going extremely fast. Goggles are a good idea for the same reason especially if it is snowing; tinted sunglasses will also do. Sun screen and chap stick or lip balm are also a good idea.
The little extras are also essential. These include but are not limited to: money; lift pass and holder; snowboard lock; neck gaiter; energy bars.
The last item is the most essential: bring lots of water. It is easy to get dehydrated on the slopes not despite the cold but because of it. We notice that we are sweating far less in cold weather and the more sweat the more moisture we lose. Whether you bring a backpack or a camel pack always make sure you have at least two litres of water and that you drink it at regular intervals. Even your helmet will not help you if you become dehydrated.

How To Search The Internet For Myrtle Beach Vacation Rentals
How To Search The Internet For Myrtle Beach Vacation Rentals
There are three basic places to look for Myrtle Beach vacation rentals do a search on a major search engine visit the website of the resort or property manager or visit advertising websites that list units from around the world.
Major Search Engines
A good place to start is doing a generic search in Google Yahoo or MSN for what you are after. Looking for a condo? Search for “Myrtle Beach condo rentals.” Beach homes? “Myrtle Beach beach homes.” Usually the websites that come up first will have some of the largest inventories and give you plenty of options to pick the best rental for your vacation.
Don’t just stick with one search engine though! If you don’t find something you are after try Yahoo instead of Google or MSN instead of Yahoo. They all give different results in this market and with hundeds of resorts and beach homes dotting the Grand Strand area you will have plenty Myrtle Beach vacation rentals to choose from.
Resort/Property Management Website
First I need to clarify. A resort/condo has owners of individual units within that building. Owners have the option of renting through the complex itself or going with an offsite property management company to rent their condo. Most likely you are renting a condo that an individual person owns if you are renting through a property management company who usually offer a better price than the onsite management.
If you know exactly what resort you want to stay at finding their website is rather easy. Just type it into a search engine with “Myrtle Beach” at the end. But before you book through the official website make sure there are no offsite rental management companies offering a unit in the same building for a cheaper price! When you search for the resort name you will most likely see other results besides the official web site. Check those out as well.
The most important thing though is to ALWAYS look for a “Specials” page and to read the fine print. Especially in economic times like these Myrtle Beach rental management companies are offering good discounts to their prices.
Advertising Websites
Sometimes the fastest way to finding a good Myrtle Beach vacation rental although not the most thorough is to find websites dedicated to listing vacation rentals such as homeaway.com or vacationrentals.com. These websites charge a fee for property owners to list their condo unit/beach home on their website. You can perform a quick and easy search on your criteria to find what you are looking for.
Keep in mind not all resorts owners or property managers advertise on these websites so you might not get the full selection available but there will be plenty of listings to choose from. Also keep in mind these websites are used to advertise to generate leads. Always double check the information on advertising websites with a reservationist to be sure what you are after is actually in the condo or part of the condo complex.

Harrow Safer Neighbourhood
Harrow Safer Neighbourhood
Over the last couple of weeks there have been several knife attacks across London which has caused concerns on how safe London is and how safe our own boroughs are. In a recent news article published by the Harrow Police it mentioned that Harrow has the lowest crime rates in Northwest London.
Local police have been working to make harrow a safer neighbour hood. Many authoritative structures have been put in place to carry out the necessity of a safer environment for local residents. Here are some of the things that the police have been doing to make Harrow a safe neighbour hood.
1.
Undertaking initiative programmes to tackle knife related crimes committed by youths. The police have been disrupting and detecting knife enabled crimes and showing zero tolerance towards anyone in possession/carrying knives and weapons. An operation was undertaken in South Harrow underground station where officers both plain and uniform clothes stopped and searched around 90 youths and out of this one person was arrested. This proved to be a successful exercise as it reassured the residents and commuters of harrow that as a borough we do not have a knife crime issue.
2.
To combat antisocial behaviour the police have increased their foot patrol and gated the alleys to prevent fly tipping. By gating alleys this should help reduce the increasing illegal activities that have been taking place.
3.
The police have increased their stops with young people in possession of alcohol. They have taken the alcohol of the teenagers who are in possession of a significant quantity. This has helped combat any alcohol related crimes and is therefore making the streets safer.
4.
The police have been arranging activities such as football coaching sessions for those aged between the ages of 816 and half term activities. This should help take the youth wandering the streets.
5.
A new team has been created to patrol the streets of Harrow town centre. Their tasks will include
a. Distributing street trading that is illegal
b. Deterring pick pockets from the area
c. Ensuring people are felt safe in the town centre areas at night.
d. Tackling antisocial behaviour and
e. Dealing with shoplifters.
6.
Increase in speed guns purchased to deter motorist speeding.
7.
“Bin watch” has been launched to reduce burglaries in the areas.
As well as the police undertaking the above initiatives local businesses have also been doing there bit to help tackle knife crimes and anti social behaviour. The police erected a knife arch outside the Crazy Horse pub in Stanmore one Friday night.
A youth fashion show was also staged in St Ann’s shopping centre that involved youths from Harrow and local business showing their support for the event. This provided an opportunity for the youths to invest their energy into a community project and at the same time raising money for a local charity.
The Harrow Police have evidently found a way to keep violent crime to a minimum. They appear to be actively involved with the youth to ensure that Harrow remains a safe area for everyone in the neighbourhood.
