Irving EcoCenter: Take A Walk On The Dunes

Irving EcoCenter: Take A Walk On The Dunes

Visit the Irving Eco Center on the coast of New Brunswick. Its location is1932 Route 475 Bouctouche New Brunswick off of Highway 11 at exit 32. Take route 475 through the town and you will come to the dunes and the Eco Center

The Irving Eco Center is a gift from the Irving Oil Company one of Canadas largest. The Irving gasoline company has preserved a twelve kilometer plus sand dune for study and posterity. During the high season they allow only 2000 people per day to visit the dunes via a two kilometer boardwalk. The admission to the center is free. They ask however that you stay on the boardwalk and not disturb the fragile environment of the shifting sands. The dunes provide home for migratory birds and water birds including the piping plover. Various grasses and other plantlife abound surviving the harsh dunes by the sea. While walking the boardwalk you might come across some tiny animals. You will see evidence of their being there by the tracks they left in the sand. It is an educational experience to walk above the shifting dunes and view their structure. There are interpretive panels along the way describing various aspects of the dunes.

The center also has a visitors center with exhibits that interpret life on the dunes. The staff is very informative and friendly. You can arrange tours and workshops with the staff. The center is open only during summer months: early May to early September. The best time to go I in the afternoon. Then you will be sure that it will be open. Tours and exhibits are in both English and French since New Brunswick is a bilingual Province

Things To Do While Stuck In Traffic – Part One

Things To Do While Stuck In Traffic – Part One

As a well honed commuting machine with more miles under my belt than rings around Saturn I’ve found in order to keep my sanity it is KEY to have things to do to keep my mind busy when driving in lots of traffic. Yes we can all turn on the radio and listen to nonstop chatter and the same 25 songs played over and over and over again but when you commute for over an hour every day each way that runs out of steam and interest fast. Nothing’s more boring than the same old songs and the same old commercials on the radio.

Here is my list part one of other ideas to try. And remember never do anything that impairs your driving skills and awareness!!

* IPOD or MP3 player

this will make your drive much more pleasant and much more interesting from the first moment you plug it into your car. You can choose your own music books on tape or tv/movie or videos.

* BooksOnTape

Novels biographies autobiographies journals expand your brain and let your mind have something new to think about.

* Learn a New Language

If you are in the car every day you have a beautiful opportunity to learn a new language by listening to language CD’s. Practice every day for 30 minutes and in one year you will amaze yourself with what you have learned!

* Make up a Silly Game with yourself

Count how many red cars you see one way on your commute or practice mathmatical equations in your head or write a song and sing it all the way home or imagine what amazing new recipe you’re going to cook this weekend or plan your next dream trip.

* Return Calls

You know the list of people that have called you …..and you’ve been too busy to call back? Get a car phone charger and put them on speaker phone. Keep your eyes on the road and return those calls!!
